Manchester: Former England captain Michael Vaughan thinks that the opening spell of Pakistan’s seam sensation Mohammad Abbas will decide the outcome of the first at Old Trafford.
“I think the initial six-over burst that Abbas will produce, maybe more, will potentially decide the outcome of the Test match,” he said while speaking to Cricbuzz
Pakistan are ahead in the game with an overall lead of 244 having gone to stumps on 137 for eight in their second innings.

Vaughan praised the importance of Abbas and Shaheen’s new-ball spell and how English openers will be vital to have a chance to win the Test match.
“This new ball partnership of Abbas and Shaheen is magnificent and it is going to be so difficult because Abbas will wobble the ball and it will go either way. If England bat out of the crease, Rizwan will stand up to the stumps to get them back in it,” he said.
“You need a confidence-boosting 30/0 from Rory Burns and Dom Sibley, if they get to that level, I think England will have a chance,” he added.
Vaughan emphasized that how vital is to have two settled batters in the middle when leg-spinner Yasir Shah and Shah come to bowl in the final innings.
“If England have two players in by the time the leg-spinners come on, they have a chance. If they have got two new players against the leg-spinners, England have absolutely no chance,” he concluded.
